Sketches & Studies
"You can't do sketches enough. Sketch everything and keep your curiosity fresh." John Singer Sargent
A selection of sketches and studies taken from various sketchbooks over recent years. I love the magic of sketches; like poems they have the ability to transport you back to the moment in time when you created them with the memory fully intact. The smell, the sounds, the temperature, the feeling simply of being wherever you were then captured often in a few simple marks or lines. Also how they and studies can springboard you into new work and then continue to inform and inspire that work.
I realise that one of the things I've missed while studying for the BA and MA is the simple joy of sketching for its own sake. With the freedom of my new status as an independent, post-study artist, I look forward to enjoying that again.
